Welcome back to our blog! Film tastes are an extremely subjective topic, and I know that for us cinema fanatics it may be hard to find sites, reviews, blogs, or any type of content that matches our need for quality movies. What to watch next? What is the meaning of this ending? Is this movie really that good? These are everyday problems that all of us face. We search throughout the web for some type of guide or hint, someone who shares our passion and can give us answers to these questions. Motivated to fulfill your thirst, today I will recommend you 5 sites that will make you a cinematic genius (besides this blog of course).
1. IMDb
IMDb (International Movie Database) is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie and TV information. The sites offers a variety of functions such as buying movie tickets, watching trailers, and reading intriguing articles about your favorite movies. IMDb also has multimedia exclusive content such as interviews and behind the scenes images. My favorite function in IMDb is the review and ranking system, which is based on expert critiques and fan reviews that allow for great interactivity. In my opinion, this function makes for far better reviews than those of Rotten Tomates and Meta-score. It also has functions such as the watchlist, which improves your viewing and maintains an order on what you'll watch next. I strongly recommend it.
2. Looper
Looper is a site mostly known because of its Youtube channel, which offers a grab bag of bite-sized news and in-depth information about all your favorite movies and TV shows. From superhero blockbusters to binge-worthy shows and Oscar-nominated movies, Looper gives you insight and in-depth analysis of everything that surrounds pop culture. As I said before, their main outpost is their multimedia content, where they analyze, recommend, and critique movies. My favorite section of Looper is the Youtube videos or articles in which they explain unknown facts about movies, such as confusing endings or hidden references. If you have trouble grasping symbolism or hidden messages in movies, Looper is the site for you.
3. Club Cinema
Different to all the platforms mentioned in this entry, Club Cinema is not a web page, but an Instagram account. In a world widely dominated by social media, Club Cinema offers a daily dose of news, facts, scenes and recommendations for movie fanatics. What I love most about Club Cinema is that rather than making time to search for your common movie news and facts, you get multiple posts daily when checking your instagram feed. For those who are widely interested in their content, they also offer Club Cinema's Youtube channel. If you have a busy schedule or you want to include the movie world in your instagram feed, Club Cinema is your perfect option.
4. Screen Anarchy
On a different note, if you are an independent movie fanatic or you feel like you have to give your opinion or review movies publicly, Screen Anarchy is what you are looking for. ScreenAnarchy is one of the most read film websites in the entire world and has become daily reading for festival programmers, film producers, film buyers, and tens of thousands of fans every day who share the belief that there's no point in talking about the same five films that every other site in the world is talking about. What makes Screen Anarchy so great is not only their cult on independent films, but its interactivity. Instead of following traditional rules (like the name suggests) they don't hire experts, since their reviews are 100% audience based. Anyone can write!
5. Collider
Finally, for a more detained and thoughtful audience there is Collider. Collider is one of the most-known sources of impactful entertainment news. They deliver the biggest, most important industry happenings, and provide deep analysis and sharp commentary through interviews and reviews. What makes the site different, is their dedication to deliver content that is thoughtful, analytical, and all-encompassing, with a tinge of personality from their amazing set of writers. If you are looking for deep and slow paced reviews or articles, I strongly recommend Collider.
I really hope these sites are what you are looking for. If you are a movie fanatic just as me, you should go check them out. If you have any other sites or suggestions leave them in the comments down below. Stay tuned for more Cinematologist posts.
