This September 23rd Netflix released Enola Holmes. Millie Bobby Brown takes the leading role and plays Enola, the youngest sister of famous sleuth Sherlock Holmes. The film takes place in the late 19th century and follows 16-year old Enola's journey to find her missing mother.
The film received a lot of attention due to its stellar cast, including Millie Bobby Brown (Enola Holmes), Henry Cavill (Sherlock Holmes), Sam Claffin (Mycroft Holmes), Helena Bonham Carter (Eudoria Holmes), among others. After all the praise for it on social media, I decided to watch it and decide if it was worth it.
While it's not an instant classic, I enjoyed it a lot. If you watch it you should expect something very light-hearted and different from most Sherlock related material.
My favorite part about the movie was the performance of the cast. Millie did an excellent job breaking the fourth-wall and both her and Louis Partridge, who plays Viscount Tewksebury, created a very adorable relationship that kept me wanting more.
The message of the film was very important, although, as one of my teachers mentioned, it would've been stronger if they hadn't explained it in the final scene.
I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who's looking for something fun and family-friendly. Overall, I had a great time watching it and loved the mystery. I do hope that there is a sequel.
If you watched Enola Holmes already, what were your thoughts on it?
The Male cast members were sights for sore eyes
