Welcome back to our blog! Two weeks ago we brought you the Cineamtologist's top picks for film review/blog websites. This week, we'll further continue these recommendations, but we'll focus on social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok...). We live in a world dominated by social media and interactivity. The user is now the creator. According to research published by Statista, as of 2019, the average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide amounted to 144 minutes per day. Since we spend a large portion of our days submerged in these various platforms, wouldn't it be good to have a daily dose of movies in them? Here are some recommendations to add the magic of films to your daily feed:
1. Cinema Magic · Instagram
Instagram is one fo the most used social media apps in the world. Due to their exclusiveness of visual content, the app makes for a great platform to promote movie-related content. Cinema Magic is an instagram account perfect for all film fanatics. It has 2.7 million followers. Similar to other accounts such as Club Cinema (which I mention in my previous blog posts), Cinema Magic is the perfect source to acquire news, reviews, unknown facts and recommendations on cinematic culture. They also prompt great interactivity with their audience, using stories, polls, and trivia to improve their content. If you spend your days checking your instagram feed, and you would like to know everything about the film industry, I recommend you Cinema Magic.
2. IMDb · Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram
IMDb is the world's biggest online platform for film reviews, critics, and recommendations. Apart from being a world-known reliable institution when it comes to film, the organization is also notably present in social media. Their Twitter and Instagram accounts have 4.5 and 2.5 million followers respectively. One of their biggest platforms of interactivity with their audience is Facebook, where the site has over 7 million followers. In these accounts they post new trailers, casting updates, photos, trivia, industry news and reviews. What makes the site so great is the network created amongst their different platforms. In the website and in each social media account you can find links and buttons that lead you to the other platforms (each with different content), establishing a massive social network that makes them the most authoritative source for movie, TV, and celebrity content.
3. TikTok · Sounds and Hashtags
Instead of recommending a specific account, giving you sounds and hashtags is something more suitable for TikTok's algorithm. TikTok is currently the world's most used and downloaded app. The platform receives an estimated 800 million active users everyday, according to Business of Apps. With the amount of content published daily, it is easier to search through the app using sounds (the background music for the short videos) or hashtags. TikTok is primarily based on audio, so in early 2020, the movie world made its breakthrough into the app with two songs: My tears are becoming a sea, by M83, and In this shirt, by The Irrepressibles. The two sounds took over TikTok as people made aesthetic movie scenes compilations or replaced original movie audios with the songs. Soon more cinema-related videos appeared in the platform, becoming a common section in the user's For You page. In order to identify these videos and separate them for film fanatics, the content creators used hashtags such as: #film, #movies, #cineamtic, #cineamticexperience, #moviescenes, #cinematography or #favoritemovies.
